Free Chess is a basic online chess game that is, as the name implies, completely free. The game can be installed on virtually any Windows operating system, even very old versions like Windows 95. Free Chess has a simple and minimalist interface without any unnecessary elements that could distract you while playing. You can play against the computer if you prefer, or you can connect to the internet to find human opponents to play with.
Free Chess allows you to switch between 2D and 3D views as well as turn the board 180 degrees so you can see what your opponent is seeing. The game has 7 different levels of difficulty, so it’s suitable for people who are just starting out as well as veteran chess players. The only downside is this is not a great game for people who are still learning how to play, because it doesn’t come with any sort of tutorial.
One interesting feature in the game is the discreet background music, which is perfect to aiding in concentration. The music is relaxing enough, but won’t put you to sleep, so you can stay alert and be at the top of your game.
